Tholins found on Titan
There's a new state of matter brewing. Fly to Saturn's moon Titan, past many intriguing moons, with the European Space Agency's
Cassini-Huygens spacecraft mission. The Huygens probe detaches from Cassini and lands on Titan, detecting the mysterious
"tholins" as it rushed down through Titan's atmosphere. Titan is the same size as Earth and is the only moon in our solar system with a
dense atmosphere. Tholins are an organic plasma that can dissolve into
amino acids when mixed with water. Amino acids form all the proteins and
peptides necessary for living creatures.
